There was a lot I could relate to here! (If there's anything we've learned from sci-fi, it's that the humans are more awful to each other than nearly any alien would be.) However, your sentence about being insulated from everyone when you are paid to do a job just didn't make sense. Everything you listed afterwards, the bank and lawyer and teen, those are things people (ie, like me) have to do while working a paid job. They are a pretty unavoidable part of modern life. If you didn't, ok. In that case, I'd guess that most all the people who worked for you though, did.
I thought I replied, but now I don't see it. Anyway, I agree! I was unclear here since I did have to do those things (or I put them off) when I worked. There's something about it being undiluted by work which makes it feel different for me. I'll work on it!
That makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification. In reading this, it sounded to me like you had a magic house elf that was your intermediary in handling the adulting things that drive us all crazy! Of course that wasn’t really the focus of your piece - which was about mindset and emotions - of which I very much understand where you are coming from. I don’t think I’m difficult, overly demanding or unreasonable but maybe some folks think I am. Certainly I find the behavior of many others frustrating (to say the least)! Thanks for the response and I will keep reading your posts.
I’m retiring soon
The main reason is that I’m all peopled out.
A early congrats then :)
I can relate! I've been told by a good friend, "Irina, you care a lot about people... but you don't like most of them!" and that couldn't be truer.
Yes! I care about specific people, but people (as a general lot) are the worst :)
And all along i thought i was the only crazy one. Expecting the world of the world! Thanks Alana for dispelling my uniqueness.
Yay, we are not alone!
